CHECK your research

Take some time to check how your first draft has evolved to make your presentation more memorable. This is the moment when you need to iterate to make sure everything ties together.

WRITE A SCRIPT

This is the moment when you should start writing a script- A detailed version of your first storyboard, with what will happen during the presentation.

This includes: a) what is everyone saying and when, b) what are people seeing in the video at any given point.

Some guiding questions:

  • What is the main message? Is it clear?

  • Are we delivering the basic info required?

  • Is the information organised as a coherent story/narration? Or just a long list of things?

  • Are we using the right resources to deliver our message?

  • Are our resources coherent with the topic? (especially important when using humour).

  • Are we satisfied with the final script?

CREATE support material

Now that you have a script, you can focus on creating and improving all supporting material required in your video - i.e . the slides and props.

The following tools (in addition to the familiar Microsoft PowerPoint or Keynote for Mac users) can be used to make static presentations, that you can then add voice-overs to, to create your presentations:

For more exciting, eye-catching designs you can also go to:

Top tip: Presentation softwares now offer 100s of editable templates. While that can be very tempting (especially as different group members may have varied aesthetic tastes), keep it simple! Simplicity of content is more important than flashy graphics.

PRACTICE until you are confident

As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect!

Finally, it is a good idea to practice and rehearse just like you would do if the presentation was in person. It will save loads of filming and editing time in the future, and you will feel more confident while delivering the message.
